'Merriams' and the lovely Hinchliffes! Part 1.

Some clients are just a dream to work for.  Enter the Hinchliffes!

Sue, Rich and their kids Robbie and Holly live in a 1960's house in Berkhamsted.  Enjoying a fabulous location and stunning views - but suffering from some of the last century's worst architecture - they gathered together a team of architects, builders, an interior designer and a project manager to transform the house into an amazing, modern, state of the art family home.

The house was literally ripped apart, with only the walls and kitchen left untouched. The roof was removed and lifted to create a first floor with additional bedrooms and bathrooms.

The kitchen units were left in-situ but Rich saw a great opportunity to let more light in by knocking through to the dining room. The breakfast room has full length windows to max out on the light and the incredible views.

I suggested bright orange glass mosaic tiles tiles to revamp the kitchen, and a Jab stripe silk for the Ellipse pendant light over the new dining table. Sue loves Designers Guild and chose a glamorous yet practical fabric for the front of the chairs.  They each have a different brightly coloured button in the centre and striking velvet on the backs.
One wall is covered in an amazing textured wallpaper which I hung without even telling them! I was delighted - but not surprised -  that they loved it!

The kitchen leads through to the dining room which now has a floor to ceiling glass wall. The wallpaper looks like creased silk, with 2 panels of cut crystal drops. I supplied bespoke wall lamps and a huge centre pendant which (just today) I draped with lead crystals - under the creative directorship of Robbie H. Thanks Robbie!

Sue held onto a Designers Guild wallpaper from the outset which she wanted to use in her new office.  Not afraid of daring colours, she chose a stunning lime green velvet for the sofa which she fell in love with on our trip to London Design Week this Summer.

I added a lime green lamp and and Sue now has a lovely room she can live, work and relax in.

That folks. is just a taste of more to come. Check back in very soon for the next installment....
